 SUBMISSION GUIDELINES (October 2007)
« Thread Started on Sept 23, 2007, 6:08pm »

Worlds of Wonder is a quarterly Webzine, published in January, April, July and October.

Our payment rates are as follows:

Short stories: $5.00
Poems: $5.00
Serials: $10 (flat rate)

All payments are in Canadian dollars and will be made via Paypal.

Submissions should be emailed to us as MS Word rtf or doc attachments using the link provided at the bottom of our Submissions page.

Worlds of Wonder will have non-exclusive, One-time Electronic (World Wide Web) Publishing rights to your work for the quarter in which your short story or poem appears. These rights will revert back to you once the story has been published. Copyright remains yours at all times.

Past and present issues of Worlds of Wonder are also offered as a digital download and in print, through Lulu.com. A link to these optional issues can be found on the "Current Issue" page of the webzine. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide free author copies at this time, but contributing authors may purchase print or digital copies of the issue in which their story or poem appears.

WHAT WE WANT

Worlds of Wonder accepts all types of Fantasy, Science Fiction, Speculative Fiction and Horror.

When it comes to Horror we prefer the eerie, creepy, Vampires in the closet type, rather than the bloody, gory, Jason with a chainsaw type.

Androids, Space Stations, Dragons, Magic, Vampires, Zombies, Banshees -- Alternate History, Parallel Dimensions -- if your story contains any or all of these things, we would like to see it.

Short Fiction submissions should be between 1000 & 7500 words in length.

Serials should be between 8000 & 40,000 words in length. All Serials MUST be complete before they will be considered for publication.

Flash Fiction submissions should be between 200 & 1000 words in length.

We do not have a line limit when it comes to Poetry, but we please ask that any poems sent to us have an obvious Fantasy, SF, or Horror element to them.

We do accept multiple submissions, but please ask that you send only one story and no more than five poems per email.

We accept Book/Movie Reviews of any Genre, as well as Feature Articles on topics related to writing or the publishing industry as a whole. Unfortunately we are not able to pay for Feature Articles or Book Reviews at this time. Hopefully this will change in the future.

WHAT WE DON'T WANT

We do not accept Fan Fiction or stories with copyrighted characters.

We do not accept Reprints.

We do not accept Simultaneous submissions.

We do not accept stories containing, excessive gore or violence, or gratuitous sex, no matter how essential they are to the plot.

SUBMISSIONS PROCEDURE

All submissions must be accompanied by an email cover letter which introduces you and your submission. It should include the following:

The Title of your submission.
Your name as you would like it to appear on your submission.
Your real name and a valid email address
The approximate word/line count of your story or poem.
A link to your web page, if you have one.
A Brief (100 words) Author biography that will accompany your story or poem.

We prefer submissions to be in Message Board/Webzine format. Single spaced, with an extra line in between paragraphs.

Please do not use __ to indicate italics, or * to indicate bold. We prefer to see italics and bold the way the author intended them.

Please use "this" to indicate dialogue -- not 'this' -- single quotes are a major pain to change while editing, especially in long stories, or serials. Anything you can do to make our Editorial life easier will be looked upon with favor.

Please send us your BEST work. Submissions should be free of punctuation, grammar and spelling errors. If we have one spot left, and two submissions vying for that spot, the cleanest submission will win. Always.

Please be patient. Submissions are processed in the order in which they are received and response time will vary depending on the number of submissions received for that quarter. If you do not receive an acknowledgment of your story within two weeks of submission, please send a query. If you do not receive either an acceptance or a rejection within eight weeks, please send a query.

Worlds of Wonder welcomes your submissions!
